You will need
Scheepjes Catona (100% cotton, 25g/63m) – or alternative 4ply cotton

  • 1 ball of Yarn A Light Orchid (226)

Scheepjes Catona (100% cotton, 10g/25m) – or alternative 4ply cotton

Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

Crochet snake measures 11cm (4¼in) tall

Abbreviations

Notes
This amigurumi snake crochet pattern is worked in the amigurumi style unless otherwise stated. Work stitches in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first stitch of the round, moving the marker up as you go.
The crochet snake is worked from the Head down. A space is left towards the end of the Head which the Body is worked off from. The Tail is worked in the same way, with a space being left towards the end of the Body.

Head
Using Yarn A, make a crochet magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), 8dc in loop. [8 sts]
Round 2 2dc in each st around. [16 sts]
Round 3 (1dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times. [24 sts]
Round 4 (2dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times. [32 sts]
Round 5 Dc in next st, 2dc in next st, (3dc, 2dc in next st) 7 times, dc in next 2 sts. [40 sts]
Round 6 (4dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times. [48 sts]
Rounds 7-10 Dc in each st around.
Round 11 (7dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [54 sts]
Rounds 12-15 Dc in each st around.
Round 16 (8dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [60 sts]
Rounds 17-18 Dc in each st around. [60 sts]
Round 19 (2dc, dc2tog) 9 times, change to Yarn B (leave Yarn A inside the work to crochet the Body later), ch8, skip 24 sts, dc in first st of round. [27 sts, 1 ch-8 sp]
Round 20 (1dc, dc2tog) 9 times, dc in each ch across. [26 sts]
Insert eyes between Rounds 15-16, 12 sts apart.
Start stuffing Head firmly.
Round 21 (Dc2tog) 13 times. [13 sts]
Rounds 21 (Dc2tog) 6 times, dc in final st. [7 sts]
Fasten off and use the tail to close the opening.

Body
Insert the hook first skipped st from Round 18 of Head and pick up Yarn A.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1, dc in first 24 sts, change to Yarn B, working in opposite side of ch-8: (1dc, 2dc in next st) 4 times. [36 sts]

Change to Yarn A.
Rounds 2-12 Dc in first 24 sts, change to Yarn B, dc in next 12 sts.
Round 13 Change to Yarn A, (8dc, 2dc in next st) twice, dc in next 6 sts, change to Yarn B, dc in next 12
sts. [38 sts]
Start stuffing the Body, continue as you go.
Rounds 14-15 Change to Yarn A, dc in next 26 sts, change to Yarn B, dc in next 12 sts.

Fasten off Yarn A only.
Round 16 (1dc, dc2tog) twice, ch6, skip 14 sts (tail space made), (1dc, dc2tog) 6 times. [16 sts, 1 ch-6 sp]
Round 17 Dc in first 4 sts, dc in each ch across, dc in final 12 sts. [22 sts]
Round 18 (Dc2tog) 11 times. [11 sts]
Round 19 (Dc2tog) 3 times, ss in final st.
Fasten off and use the tail to close the opening.
Using Chrystalline, Lilac Mist, Lemon, Kiwi, Vintage Peach and Marshmallow, sew small straight sts over the stomach. You can use the image as a guide.

Tail
Join Yarn A in seventh skipped st from Round 15 of Body.
Round 1 Ch1, dc in next 8 sts, 6dc in opposite side of ch-6, dc in next 6 skipped sts from Round 15. [20 sts]
Rounds 2-26 Dc in each st around.
Start stuffing Tail, continue as you go.
Round 27 (3dc, dc2tog) 4 times. [16 sts]
Rounds 28-30 Dc in each st around.
Round 31 (2dc, dc2tog) 4 times. [12 sts]
Rounds 32-33 Dc in each st around.
Round 34 (1dc, dc2tog) 4 times. [8 sts]
Round 35 Dc in each st around.
Round 36 (Dc2tog) 4 times. [4 sts]
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Use the tail to close the final round, then stitch it to the body so it curves around to the front. You can use the image as a guide.
Using Black Coffee and Yarn B, sew the mouth, nose and fangs to the Head.

Tongue
Using Rust, ch6
Row 1 Ss in second ch from hook, ss in next ch, ch3, ss in second ch from hook and next ch, ss in each remaining ch of foundation ch-6. [7 ss]
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Sew the Tongue to the mouth.
Using the makeup blush, adding colours for the cheeks.

Crown
Using Saffron, ch25 and ss to first ch to form a loop.
Round1 Ch1, dc in each ch around, ss to beg dc. [25 sts]
Round2 Ch3 (count as tr), (1tr, ch3, 2tr) in same st as beg ch-3, *skip 4 sts, (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in next st) 4 times, skip 4 sts, ss to top of beg ch-3.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the small beads to the Crown then sew the Crown on the Head over Rounds 1-6.
